What do I give the sister for Christmas, who seems to have everything? A song. However, during the 40 something rewrites of this song, I found that it was a gift to myself in learning to see her past my previous perceptions of her. I created several versions for this song and came back around to the "family" version, more personal to us and her being a cancer survivor. The words are a little different in the Youtube slide show video. If you like that version, send me an email and I will send you the audio.

Lyrics

SISTER ©2013 Lezlee Monroe
for Tracine

Here’s a picture of
that small red-headed girl
Breakin’ out to show
her message to the world
They called you rebel
They couldn’t see
Your kind of beautiful
just wanted to be free

To do like mother did when she was here
You bring the children joy
Make the deaf to hear
They call you angel
I say it’s true
You didn’t forget me
When I wasn’t close to you
It’s time to say a word or two
YOU’RE MY SISTER AND I LOVE YOU
WE ARE FAMILY
WE ARE TRUE-BLUE
WHEN YOU LOOK FOR LOVE
TO LEAN ON
WITH ARMS TO FALL INTO
I’M HERE FOR YOU
FOR YOU ARE MY SISTER
I remember when you were a super hero
A famous ballerina up on toe
And a warrior when
the cancer had its day
I call you miracle and I’m still amazed CHORUS
It’s so curious when
polar opposites can learn
Love is the bridge
that never burns no no no

YOU’RE MY SISTER AND I LOVE YOU
WE ARE FAMILY
WE ARE TRUE-BLUE
IF YOU NEED SOMEONE TO LEAN ON
A HEART TO FALL INTO
I’M HERE FOR YOU
FOR YOU (sister) MY SISTER
