From the recording LOVED ONES 2017
This song somewhat speaks for itself. We have all felt "separation" from loved ones whether it was a disagreement, or miscommunication. My journey in this experience has taught me that there is life after separation and even relief when being together might be more difficult. I also have learned that the pain of separation can come from a resistance to letting go of dreams that include the others we miss. This is the raw-est I have ever been. Once I had worked through it, I wanted to toss the song as it had "done its work" for my healing. When I consulted one of my mentors about leaving this song off the album, she said, "This is like a painting that reflects the human experience and all its colors."

FADE TO GREY ©2012 Lezlee Monroe
separation
YOU GOT ME IT’S WORKIN’
THE PUNISHMENT IT’S HURTIN’
THE COLORS IN PLAY
ARE BLACK AND WHITE I HAVE NO SAY
I can’t believe it’s happened
You closed and locked the door
It broke my heart to learn
That I can’t be near you anymore
I sink in shame and wear the blame
So “unacceptable”
Permission gone for holdin’ on
But I don’t want to let you go
YOU GOT ME I’M GUESSIN’
WHAT WILL BE THE NEXT BIG LESSON
THE COLORS SO CLEAN
ARE BLACK AND WHITE NO IN… BETWEEN
I think about the good times
When laughter was the norm
Now it seems you find your peace of mind
While I face the silent storm
I’ll do your way what can I say
That doesn’t cross the line?
I love you so I’ll turn and go
And leave the rest to time
YOU GOT ME (ooh) YOU GOT ME (ooh)
I MISS YOU I’M YEARNING
BUT I BELIEVE WORLD KEEPS TURNING
AND MAYBE SOMEDAY
OUR BLACK AND WHITE COULD FADE
TO GREY (hey ooh) TO GREY
