Here is another one for John. When we were married less than a year and still getting to know one another, we were with a group of people in the mountains in a class. I spoke up in the group and embarrassed myself terribly. When the class was over and we were all walking to our cars, I feared he would do one or more of three things: hide from me, express his embarrassment at being my spouse or try to make me feel all better. When our eyes met, he looked at me as if what happened was no big deal and he said, "Let's go home." He said nothing more of it. I felt a song coming on.

Lyrics

YOU WALK ME HOME ©2010 Lezlee Monroe
Tears in my eyes
It’s no surprise
This time I hit the wall
Felt the impact of it all alone
How else could I have known?
They whisper their words so they can’t be heard
Speaking softly of what a fool they think I was
And walk away but there you stay
AND HOLD OUT YOUR HAND as I GET ON MY FEET
YOU DON’T SAY A THING ‘BOUT THE WORDS I EAT
WHEN THE WIND DIES DOWN AND MY PRIDE IS BLOWN
YOU WALK ME HOME YOU WALK ME HOME
When I make life so hard
My confidence scarred and the fear of falling through
Has me torn up, cut and bruised and so confused
There you are
STANDING BY WHILE I FIND MY WAY
‘TIL IT’S FIN’LLY MY IDEA
WHAT YA USED TO SAY
WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN AND MY FEET ARE STONE
YOU WALK ME HOME YOU WALK ME HOME
You would never rescue me
If it could make me helpless to all I want to be
That’s how you take your stand for me when you’re
STANDING BY WHILE I SHINE MY LIGHT
AND WHEN I’M BRILLIANT AS CAN BE
TEARS ARE IN YOUR EYES
AND WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DIM
AND I FADE…UNKNOWN
YOU WALK ME HOME YOU WALK ME HOME
